Once upon a time, my medium for self expression for many years was my blog site. I started a personal blog somewhere in the year 2000. I used to post almost daily and there were times I wrote lengthy articles when I was in the mood to write. Random people leave all kinds of comments which are enjoyable to read. My blog had a good run for a few years. Then came Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram, Youtube, etc. I have accounts on all those platforms to have presence across the social media. The challenge I faced was to have a single source for all my posts. They were all over the place. I tried cross posting too, but it got very messy. So after a while I finally gave up. For the longest time, I find Facebook to be my primary platform for posting photos, life updates, travels, rants and some random stuff. All my friends and family are in that platform so it just make sense to post my regular updates there. I eventually abandoned my blog completely and and some of the other social media sites too that I used to frequent.
Honestly, even until now, Facebook is not really my cup of tea. Well it was for a while but I now despised what it has become and the evil influence it has to people. The “Like” button is not something to desire in my opinion. That sense of validation and self-gratification bring more harm to people’s mental health. I’m sick and tired of it. When I share pictures or my travel experiences, I want my friends to make a conversation about it and not just press the like button. These days, most people don’t even browse through the multitude of photos that you post, they just hit the like button. No comment or whatsoever. For me it’s a strange way of communicating. If you even call that a form of communication. In real life, when you stumble upon someone you know, you don’t just put your thumbs up. You say “hi, how are you.” When I post my travels, I want people to ask me, “Hey, how was the trip? Where did you go? Blah blah blah.” We are humans after all. We are all designed to use our lips to communicate. Seeing likes on my posts has no significance to me. I want people to engage in a conversation.
This is why I am going back to blogging, which is my own little world of expressing myself. There’s no like or dislike button that my readers can click. Every post that I make is something that I want to share publicly to everyone. Some of my posts can be entertaining, inspiring, hurtful or just plain boring. But that’s okay, it’s my blog and this is a free country where we can express our opinions freely as long as we do not cause any harm to anyone. If you don’t like my writings, you are free to leave my blog, just like I am free to write them. If you like them, you have my gratitude, and perhaps we can make use of my blog to help you, help me or help other people in some form or another.
Anyhoo, this back to blogging post was not even supposed to be long. It should be just a one liner post. I got carried away, again, just like with my previous blog posts, LOL. This is why I like blogging, it gives me the freedom to write what I want. I can freely express myself. Sometimes writing for me is therapeutic, it’s liberating. It’s like riding my motorcycle on an open road.
So if you have gone this far and still reading this, welcome to my small world of self expression.
