Finally, a helmet mount that works for my Contour HD! Awesome! I can definitely use this for my bicycle helmet and motorcycle helmet. It can rotate 360 degrees and tilt side to side on a 180 degree plane. That means I can pretty much cover anything I want on a helmet point of view. I can shoot the front road, the guy riding behind me or the rider next to me. This maybe a helmet mount but I can see it being mounted on other locations of a motorcycle too like the side fairings, the front fender or maybe the pillion cover.

The mount is essentially two pieces, an adhesive base and uniquely adjustable modulating head. The base utilizes super strong 3M adhesive to make sure the mount is solidly attached. Contour also sells the base separately. As of now, you can only buy this mount from Contour’s website but will be in the hands of retailers soon. I don’t think I can wait for Amazon to get them in stock so I’m ordering one now. It’s kind of pricey though at $39.99 plus shipping.

Here are more details on this 360 Helmet Mount: http://contour.com/products/360-helmet-mount

The other day, I had a close encounter with a mountain lion and today was a huge German Shepherd dog! And speaking of a close encounter, how about a man-size dog sniffing on my rear tire while I was still standing on my bike, helpless. Is that close enough? I’m not sure if these vicious animals like me or what! Okay, this particular dog might not be vicious but it’s still a huge stray dog that’s capable of killing a person.

So I was riding on San Felipe today (trying to escape lunch) and right by the junction of San Felipe and Metcalf, I saw this huge German Shepherd dog wandering in the middle of the road. He looks lost and in a bad mood. My first instinct was to stop immediately to avoid the dog from chasing me. I know for sure I can not outrun him anyway. That’s from experience I guess. Yes I got bitten many times by dogs while on a bike. So I stopped on the side of the road and unclipped my right foot from the pedal. I was going to slowly walk the bike away but this dog came right behind me and started sniffing on my rear tire. I freaking FROZE!!! Seriously, I didn’t know what to do. Then he stopped and looked like he’s waiting for my move. I didn’t want to look straight at him because we might have an eye to eye contact and I don’t think that’s a good idea. I was thinking, I’d slowly move the bike but I might upset him and start attacking me. So I just froze there and was stuck then I started praying, hehehe.

Then after a minute I saw a car coming by. I was surprised that a car showed up on that road, it’s very unusual. I started yelling… HELP! HELP! HELP! until the car was actually stopped in front of me. Oh man, never in my life have I yelled help that many times. And it wasn’t just shouting help but it’s more like “please help me now.” I guess I was that scared. Thanks to those couple for stopping for me. Anyway, so the guy in the car asked me, “what do you need? something wrong with your dog?” No dude, this dog is not mine, he’s going to attack me!!! Then he asked me again, “what do you want me to do?” I said, not sure man. LOL!!! Then a white pickup truck stopped then the dog went running to the driver. I was kind of relieved. So I approached the driver and asked if that was his dog. He said no but he knows the owner. I told him that dog was going to attack me. He said, “I bet he would!” Okaaay!!! Get that dog in the truck now then, geeez! Nah, I didn’t say that to him, hahaha. So the dog got in the truck and my ass was save again today.

When I got up this morning, I only planned to ride 20 miles and not towards north. I was already a mile away and I had a change of heart. I said to myself I’m gonna ride to Milpitas instead and climb up to Mt. Hamilton on my way back. And I got too confident I guess and I went all the way to Fremont (almost near highway 84). I didn’t realize it was that far. On my way back, I was still thinking of going up to Mt. Hamilton but my legs weren’t ready for that kind of beating yet. A few more long rides like this and I’ll be able to do it next time.

The ride today was supposed to be mostly flat but the steep rollers on Alameda de Las Pulgas gave me a good workout I was grinding it, I was standing it and the best of it all… I was on the gears that I’ve never imagined I could use on steep hills like this. Just to give you some idea, the steepest climb I saw was 20% grade!!! I don’t know what I ate this morning (from what I remember, I just had a sandwich and noodles) but I was a different animal today!
