I took Donna to her OB this morning for her monthly pregnancy checkup. She’s about 10 weeks. We were both excited because this will be the firts time we are going to hear our baby’s heartbeat. The MA took us to one of the rooms and she started doing a doppler test. We couldn’t hear a heartbeat. She tried for at least 5 minutes with no success. I was starting to get worried and I could see the same expression in Donna’s eyes. Then the doctor came in and did the doppler test herself. Still no heartbeat! She then turned to an old ultrasound machine to check why there was no heartbeat. From that moment, I sensed something was not right and I didn’t want to hear any bad news from the doctor. She couldn’t get the machine to work properly so we were told to get the ultrasound done in another clinic which is just across the hallway. I would not trust that machine anyway. Nevertheless, the fact that we could not hear a heartbeat is enough to get us very worried.

So Donna had a stat ultrasound and we went home to wait for the results. I called work and let them know that I won’t be coming to the office so I can be with my wife. About 2 o’clock in the afternoon, we finally got a call from the doctor. The bad news hit us, we have lost our baby! The ultrasound didn’t detect a heartbeat either. She said that the fetus might have stopped developing right around 8 weeks based on the size of the fetus. This is the most devastating event in our lives. It felt like the heaven fell down on us. My wife was crying and she’s hurting a lot. I tried to keep my tears from falling so I can be strong for her. It is not easy but we have to go through this tough time.

The doctor gave her two options. Do a D&C (dilation and curretage) now or just wait for the fetus to be flushed out of her system. I wasn’t in favor of any of these yet. I’m still not convinced that my baby didn’t make it. So we’re gonna get a second opinion and have donna do an HCG test tomorrow just to make sure all the test has been done. It is life we are talking about here and we can’t just do an abortion because someone couldn’t hear a heartbeat or a machine did not detect it. I believe there is still hope.

We found this Bumbo Seat at Target today while shopping for her toys. She’s 4 months now and able to hold her head up. She can also get up on her feet now while I hold her hands. I was skeptical with this product at first because I’m afraid that she might not be able to support her body and tumble forward. But it works! And the most important thing is, she’s enjoying this seat. I would definitely recommend this product but with caution. Make sure that your child can support her body on this seat or else it might cause them injury than good. I also recommend getting the tray. I don’t know why you have to buy this separately. It should have been included. Also, don’t get comfortable with this seat and place it on your counter top or on a table while your child is sitting on it. I have read some horror stories about this and I think it was a stupid thing to do in the first place, sorry. I think this product is cool and I am giving Bumbo an A+ for this innovative seat.

My daughter is now 3 months old today. Time really flies. There are a lot of things she can do now. She’s already able to lift up her head; push her self up a bit; she can grab her toys; she responds when you talk to her; she’s able to put her hands together; she can also lock her knees now too so she can stand up while supporting her body. One thing that’s gone and I certainly don’t miss is her being colicky. I’m glad she’s over with that thing. That’s one of a hell that we went through with her. So anyway, we bought the usual, a small cake with 3 candles.

This is not the usual baby sitting for a couple of hours while mommy is gone. My wife will go back to work starting this week and I will have to baby sit while she’s away. We decided that we’ll take care of our baby ourselves. We don’t really want to put her on a childcare. It’s hard to entrust your own child to other people’s hands. If you have a child, you know what I mean. My wife is a nurse and she works three 12-hour graveyard shift in a week. That means, I have to baby sit my daughter at night and the following morning when my wife comes home and sleeps. Thanks to David, my boss, for understanding my situation. I was allowed to work from home twice a week so I can take care of the baby in the morning while my tired wife is in bed. Red Bull, Monster or Rockstar should be fine to give me some boost when I get to work in the afternoon

If you are thinking about having a baby, you better think twice before you do it. Raising a child is no joke! It is a big responsibility. If you’re up to the challenge, I congratulate you now because the reward for raising a child is priceless.

We are a member of the Chruch of Christ (Iglesia Ni Cristo in filipino) and we don’t do infant baptism in the Church. According to the bible, baptism is only for people who are capable to understand the words of God and believe. Hence, babies are offered through the means of prayer, which is what Christ did to the small children in Mark 10:13-16:

13 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” 16 And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

This is a wonderful day for all of us. The rain was pouring hard though. The old saying says rain brings good luck The harder it pours, the more blessings we will receive. Heck, if this is true, I should have asked for a hurricane.

Since this is an important day for my daughter, we’ve setup a small celebration at my house and invited some of our close friends. Thanks to those who joined us inspite of the bad weather. The nice part was, during the party, the rain stopped. Thank god it did because we had a lot of people in our house and some had to stay outside. Right after everyone left, which is around 5:30, it started to rain again.

Of course, I took some pictures. You know where to find them right… alright, here’s the link – http://flickr.com/photos/speedster/sets/72157603995436346/.

Donna and I were out today shopping for furniture for the baby’s room. We decided that we’re just gonna buy a dresser or a chest and we’ll just get the crib later. It’s more important right now so we’ll have a place to store all the baby clothes and other stuff. Guess what we found from the store. It’s a Louis Phillipe style Man’s Chest in dark cherry finish. I’ve never heard of a man’s chest before until today. I guess it’s the men’s bedroom furniture. In the Philippines, this chest looks like an “aparador.” Donna didn’t like it at first but she bought into it eventually. Originally we wanted an adult dresser with multiple drawers but this chest fits to what we are looking for. It has plenty of room for baby clothes and blankets. It has 7 drawers on the side and 4 shelves behind a 2-glass door. I’m actually thinking of installing an adjustable closet rod in place of the 2 shelves so we can hang some dresses there too. When my baby is old enough for new furnitures, then daddy can have this one
