WUXGA (1920 x 1200) On A 17″ Laptop
I just upgraded my LCD on my 17″ HP Pavillion from WXSGA+ (1680 x 1050) to a higher resolution screen WXGA (1920 x 1200). It was actually a replacement because my old LCD cracked. I’m not saying who broke it… grrr. The new LCD is made by LG and the model is LP171WU3(TL)(A3). This particular model is a direct replacement without any modification. Installation is simple, it took me a total of 5 minutes. The first thing I checked of course is dead pixels. I’m glad there’s none. It is as bright and as nice as my OEM one. The higher res makes everything clearer but also SMALLER! I’m sure I’ll get used to it but I’m getting eye strain right now. I love the added real estate which is very helpful for web development. Overall I’m happy with this new LCD. For normal computing use, I’d stick to WSXGA+ which I believe is the perfect screen resolution for 17″ laptops.
