Emergency Visit To The Vet
I had to bring Princess to the clinic early this morning. This is what happened. I gave my dogs (Andre, Princess and Jimbo) some oxtail bone after I had my breakfast this morning. Just before I was going to step in the shower room, I heard some noise outside. I peeked over the window and saw Princess choking. Of course I put my clothes back on and rushed outside. I was so helpless and didn’t know what to do. What do I know about saving a choking dog. My wife was there holding my baby while she watched me tried to help my dog. I remember I was begging her to help me save my dog. But she’s a nurse and her knowledge about first-aid might not apply to dogs. She tried anyway but Princess wasn’t doing any better. So I took Princess and we drove to the clinic, which is just a few blocks away from us. I was driving like a maniac and didn’t care about traffic lights or even CHP. I probably ran two red lights. We got to the clinic and they took care of her right away. Talking about emergency… I hadn’t had a shower, hadn’t brushed my teeth, and I didn’t have my wallet and cell phone with me.
Well, it turned out that it wasn’t a life threatening situation at all. She just had two broken teeth (left and right jaw), which was making her uncomfortable and would seem like she was choking. That was a big relief. The bone must have caused this and plus she’s already 9 years old and her teeth are starting to fall apart. In fact some of her teeth are already gone. So I just asked them to pull them out to make it easy for her. They would have to give her anestesia for this.
As expected, a visit to the vet is another dent to my pocket. I had to pay the emergency visit, the expensive anestesia, the doctor and antibiotic. Let’s just say, the total damage was enough to buy me a new mountain bike. I guess its ok. The most important thing is my dog is alive.
